The fight was progressing well in the first rounds and it was looking like it's going to be a good fight. But then Chaves realized he won't survive exchanging blows with Rios and Chaves looked like he's running out of gas. He had to clinch his way to survive. Otherwise...

Fights like these had to be resolved by the ref decisively and penalize the offending fighter for every offense. The excessive clinching made it very difficult to watch.

For every step Rios took forward, Chaves decided to clinch. These clinchers ruined great matchups, and it just hurts boxing.

You should watch Thurman - Chaves again and see what a clincher Chaves is. Rios used his head as a third fist all night, he even cut Chaves. Both fought dirty and most of americans fighter clinch more than Chaves, so what's the big deal? Chaves is a B level fighter and still Rios looked bad and was loosing ones again until the DQ.

Yeah Rios was fighting clean they both fought dirty, but apparently only Chaves' fouls were worthy of a DQ.

The fact that Chaves started clinching even more after the first point deduction is what drove me mad with frustration. The whole point of deductions is to prevent the fighter from doing it more, but this guy has the nerve to do the opposite. That type of **** should not be rewarded. What the fuck is there for the ref to do other than disqualifying if Chaves won't obey instructions?

Lol, I will always dread the Khan/Collazo fight. I wanted to cross Khan right in the mouth. Too bad Collazo was straight up trash that he didn't do anything the entire fight. A shot dude (Collazo) only got the fight because he beat a quitter.

"apparently" I could give 2 *****s about the fouls, they were actually entertaining.
but the clinching was something else, Rios got clinched for every step forward that he took.

The fight should not have gone that far. The dirty Chaves should have been disqualified much earlier for his excessive clinching.

Refereeing a fight should be taken as an opportunity to weed out the weak links in boxing and put them where they belong. It was clear that Chaves was just trying to survive. It would have been tolerable if he moved around instead of clinching, but he's too gassed to run around.

Yeah it seemed Chaves inisiated the clinch every possible moment after the 2nd its like he realized he couldn't go toe to toe with Rios.
