  • Comments Thread For: Denis Boytsov To Return on Huck-Larghetti Card

Russian heavyweight Dennis Boytsov (33-1) returns to action on August 30 in Halle/Westfalen on the undercard to Marco Huck´s defence of the WBO cruiserweight title against Mirko Larghetti, writes boxwelt.com. Boytsov has been out since the upset loss to Alex Leapai in November of last year in what was his first fight for Sauerland Event. The 28-year old turned pro in 2004 with Universum but a series of injuries and contractual disputes have derailed his career and he is now looking to get back on track. [Click Here To Read More]

Boytsov had excellent potential at one time (2008-2009) but was ruined by inactivity and very soft opposition after that.

And now Sauerland is having him fight just once a year. Sad.

Conditioning was clearly the issue against Leapai,if Denis has been working on his stamina and genral all round fitness he can and will be a contender, lets see what shape he enters the ring in next out.if he hasn't shed weight and isn't conditioned as a professional should, then it is time to forget about him.

Personally I like him and rate him, coming into a fight struggling after three rounds is absolutely pathetic though.I won't be wasting my time watching him again if he hasn't been training like a demon for the last 7 months.

He lost his first fight for Sauerland against Leapei, an opponent everyone thought he would beat.
He should be happy that Sauerland gives him a second chance because against Leapei he looked like a fighter whos passion for boxing is gone.
I had high hopes in Boytsov because in his early fights he looked like a young Tyson. But his german trainers changed him to much and turned him into a typical european fighter but that style is not for him. He needs to bob and weave and throw hard combinations but you are not seeing him doing that lately. Besides that hes a pumped up cruiserweight. Hes no natural heavyweight. But now ist to late to go to cruiser anyway. He would make the same experience that Eddie Chambers made in his cruiserweight fight and Chambers is a much more capable boxer than Boytsov.

he was on the right path with wins over gavern, maddalone & guinn but injuries & inactivity were a serious issue. the loss to leapai was crippling to his career as many felt he was a little overrated (I am one of them). he is still young enough to get back in the mix but his size & power are a real question mark. I don't think he is a big puncher & he was very easy to hit against leapai. he wasn't in top condition for the fight but he still shouldn't have lost to alex if he was a serious contender. he got a generous WBO ranking winning a few regional belts but losing to leapai has really put him behind the 8-ball. leapai lost to kevin Johnson. i'm not saying that is a bad thing but not many HWs have lost to kingpin the last few years...
