Comments Thread For: DiBella Supports Sergio Martinez’s Choice Not to Retire

Sergio Martinez announced in mid-July that he would not be retiring despite his one-sided loss to Miguel Cotto over the course of nine rounds in June, a defeat that came after the middleweight champion had spent more than a year recovering from injuries to his knee and hand.

His promoter, Lou DiBella, tells BoxingScene that he supports Martinez’s decision. Martinez will soon be coming to New York to “see one of the top orthopedic guys in the country” and “be fully checked out,” DiBella said.

He makes sense here. Martinez said from day one that the knee was not the problem and after that his reflexes were shot until I think the 7th or 8th round when he landed a few shots. I totally agree with having another fight to see where he is.

          Money grab, nothing else.

Sergio has been done since Chavez, that was his final top level performance. With the injuries, layoff's and more injuries he is less than half the fighter he was.

Sergio's legs were buckling under him just trying to move last time out...why do it again for anything but the money?

I don't think so at all. Dibella got to the point where he told Taylor to retire. Taylor refused so Dibella released him.

Di bella and co are looking for another big cash out fight maybe against golovkin in the garden next year. I would like that fight if sergio proves his fitness.

I don't think DiBella is allowing Sergio anywhere near tripple G at this point. He knows better.

It was his knee doe. Yet another article showing that Sergio had ZERO knee issues after the fight. He got put on that Zab Judah chicken dance, it also happened to Cotto himself when he fought Corley. If you get hit in the head, sometimes your legs get all ****ed up in the process.
