Fans should rejoice when a mismatch does bad ratings. It forces fighters, promoters, networks to put on better cards and fights, offer up more money to make those elusive good fights happen.
Mayweather vs Guerrero doing 850k was what drove Mayweather, Haymon, GBP, Showtime to push for Mayweather vs Canelo, a fight everybody wanted to see. The result was 2.2 million PPVs sold.
Hopefully this forces HBO, K2, and Golovkin's people to fight some one much better. That is, leave 160, that division is trash.

...
The average American doesn't know a damn thing about boxing whatsoever. They are not choosing to skip any fight over another for any precise reason. They simply have no clue it is even going on. All that needs to happen to change this is for ESPN to cover boxing.
The lower ratings also have a lot to do with the fact that the fight was on a summer night, in which a lot of people probably went out, instead of the November fight, which was on a winter night.

Cotto: "It doesnt make financial sense."
GGG: "but... but... but..."
Ward (cuts ggg off): "I thought you would fight anyone at 168?"
GGG: "Even though I cant draw more than you, the fight makes no financial sense."
GGG fans are getting worse than floyd fans.

According to Dan Rafael per Nielsen Media Research, the fight did 984K, and peaked at about 1.048 million viewers. That's obviously a lot better than 750K or w/e the number was, but still not that great.
