You have to be more specific because Canelo is not American, Cotto is not American, Pacquiao is not American, Marquez is not American, Chavez is not American, Martinez is not American, Khan is not American. All of these fighters are doing fine with the ratings/PPV. You have to be more specific with why Golovkin not being American hurts his ratings.Comment

Fans should rejoice when a mismatch does bad ratings. It forces fighters, promoters, networks to put on better cards and fights, offer up more money to make those elusive good fights happen.
Mayweather vs Guerrero doing 850k was what drove Mayweather, Haymon, GBP, Showtime to push for Mayweather vs Canelo, a fight everybody wanted to see. The result was 2.2 million PPVs sold.
Hopefully this forces HBO, K2, and Golovkin's people to fight some one much better. That is, leave 160, that division is trash.Comment

The average American doesn't know a damn thing about boxing whatsoever. They are not choosing to skip any fight over another for any precise reason. They simply have no clue it is even going on. All that needs to happen to change this is for ESPN to cover boxing.
The lower ratings also have a lot to do with the fact that the fight was on a summer night, in which a lot of people probably went out, instead of the November fight, which was on a winter night.Comment

It would actually be better for GGG's career if he mans up and fights the NUMBER 2 P4P. "but ward is a weight class above doe."
GGG: "Ill fight anyone 154-168"
Ward: "ill fight you at 168"
GGG: "it doesnt make financial sense. You can't draw. I want miguel cotto instead"
Cotto: "It doesnt make financial sense."
GGG: "but... but... but..."
Ward (cuts ggg off): "I thought you would fight anyone at 168?"
GGG: "Even though I cant draw more than you, the fight makes no financial sense."
GGG fans are getting worse than floyd fans.Comment

You sure?
Ok, finalized Ward-Rodriguez ratings on HBO: average was 1,029,333 viewers. Their average for the main event was 1,191,000. #boxing

According to Dan Rafael per Nielsen Media Research, the fight did 984K, and peaked at about 1.048 million viewers. That's obviously a lot better than 750K or w/e the number was, but still not that great.Comment

thats with dvr viewing factored in. the fight was a flop. and rafael also argued that it ws because it was such a short fight, but that doesnt really add up either. first of all the dvr numbers still barely capped i million and add the fact this isnt the first time golovkin had a short fight and yet those numbers were still superior.Comment
