Pacman and Floyd have both been welterweights for many years.

Yeah, pretty much this. Only serious boxing fans would like to see Golovkin vs Ward while the casuals couldn't care less because they either don't know who they are or know little about them. Pacquiao vs Mayweather is a casuals fans because these two have been hyped so much through the media and word of mouth that you forget that they're short men that only appear larger than life on tv and through the media's spin and word of mouth that makes these two appear like the stuff of legends but like most legends it has been exaggerated. Boxing is a business too and you must market fighters to appear larger than life to increase revenue. Chances are the fight between them would be an uneventful 12 round fight but it would be hyped like it was the fight of the century for profit reasons. It's just popular to like these two and want to see them fight so the casuals and the masses just go along with popular opinion.

No where near the same, especially since GGG and ward arent even in the same weight division yet.

not even serious true boxing fans want to see ward vs golovkin

ward should move up - he said he would fight hopkins but wont fight kovalev or stevenson

ward vs golovkin is not as an exciting fight as ggg vs froch or chavez

there is little intrigue surrounding ward.

Ward would be pretty small for light heavyweight. Personally I don't much care for Ward but I'm a Golovkin fan so I would still like to see him fight the fighters that are considered the best even if their styles aren't exciting.

nah, this fight will happen when they are in the same division, provided ward doesn't just retire before then. golovkin will fight soliman next, then he'll try to get quillin and the winner of cotto-canelo in 2015, but if that doesn't happen then he'll face chavez jr or froch as his introduction to smw, and then the ward fight will happen. could happen as early as mid-late 2015 if cotto, canelo and quillin duck him.

Too bad the only titleholders who likely have balls in the MW division are Sam Soliman and maybe Cotto these are the only two I see giving GGG a fight.
Quillin... Doubt it even with GGG holding the WBC and IBF I still see Peter ducking it...
We need Korobov or Saunders to fight Quillin and beat him before we can see all the titles go to the one man.

I like watching Mayweather against anyone.

                  Ward is just boring.

Not even close. Not even same division. Does Ward even fight anymore? How many PPVs have these guys got between them?

Two Hall of Famers who were also the biggest stars in the sport

                      vs

One unknown pound for pounder and an unknown champ without an impressive win.

                      Just no.
