it will never be mainstream due to the violence, but it will always survive based on its political affiliations, rich sports history, and dedicated-yet-shallow fanbase throughout the world
basically, it's in the same category as pro wrestling - popular to those who love it, worthless to those who don't
Well said. To compare boxing to pro wrestling is disgraceful!
The Super Bowl, World Series, NHL and NBA Playoffs are all on free TV, they have organized leagues with commissioners, annual schedules, profit sharing, etc etc
boxing and wrestling are on pay per view, they have promoters rather than commissioners, and have very little mainstream media coverage

I rest my case children
you shoulda compared it to mma, but you said wrestling. im sure you realized what you were saying..so dont act suprised when people flame you for the comparison. wrestling is on ppv because only children and degenerate adults enjoy it..boxing is on ppv because today's average joe would rather watch 20 people kick a ball around than a brutal fight within a ring.

any way u slice it, both boxing and wrestling are PPV entertainment, while baseball, basketball, football, etc are real SPORTS....as much as i love boxing, it's not really a sport, it's merely brutal reality entertainment....
if boxing were a sport, then Lennox woulda beat Evander in their 1st fight, Sweet Pea woulda beat Chavez, and Don King would still be a gun-runner on the streets of Cleveland...
but it's really organized crime at the most entertaining level (next 2 Sopranos of course)
This is overall the best all around weekend in the sport since i have been a fan. In over 10 Years of watching I cannot begin to think of a bigger weekend.
