INDIO, Ca. -- Vernon Paris walks around with two bullets inside him and has survived a stabbing, too, so you wouldn't expect him to surrender in a ring.

But the fact that Paris got through 10 rounds at Fantasy Springs Casino Friday night was his only real accomplishment against menacing junior welterweight Frankie Gomez.

Gomez, who fights for Golden Boy Promotions and shares a birthday with Oscar De La Hoya, was a piece of nasty business against Paris. He decked him with a left hook to the body in the fourth round and romped to as unanimous a decision as you can have. The three judges all gave Gomez a 100-89 win, which means Paris didn't win a round.

Gomez looked really good against his first step up last night, kid has potential. Paris took a hell of a beating and I'm surprised he saw the final bell.

Maybe you should watch more boxing other than mainstream fighters.

Gomez looked good last night, lived up to the nickname "pitbull". Hopefully he stays active and keeps fighting better competition. Kid has the talent to be a champ.

There's no question that Frankie Gomez has talent and potential to do something in boxing but the title of this article is a huge over statement right now. I look forward to seeing more of Frankie and hope that he stays on track but as of right now he hasn't made any noise in anything yet, lets be realistic and not get ahead of ourselves.

Clearly a casual, the only fights you ever saw, are Mayweather's fights, perhaps you should try other boxers and specially good prospects like this kid Gomez.

Anyways good showing by Frankie, I don't know what's up with Paris, I thought he had the goods before the Judah fight, looks like the lose Judah took his heart and love of the game.

Gomez is back to being relevant, he was at risk of washing out so this is great. Still only 22!.. that is crazy to me, seems like he's been around forever. Anyway, I agree with the post above that Paris' love for boxing had been sapped...and I thought that was evident in him not willing to close the distance for a lot of the fight, lunging in from too far, etc... like what Paulie was pointing out. He did show some guts and didn't give up so I'm willing to give him another fight or two before I write him off. Anyway, Paris aided in making Gomez's defense look pretty good but overall a solid showing by Gomez. Still someone to watch out for
