I don't recall, ever a time in recent history, where a guy has fought FOUR TIMES in a row just a single pound over a weight class, fought for the lineal title and then demands he defends that title at his own created weight class. This is a first as far as I can tell and it's honestly absurd.

This isn't even about Golovkin vs Canelo anymore this is about what is right and what is wrong and how boxing should handle these types of situations.

This is exactly why I feared Sergio Martinez would lose to Cotto. I called this before the fight. I didn't think it would be Canelo in the end though, I thought Mayweather would probably be in the mix and those true welterweights/small JMW's would be passing around the middleweight crown. This is probably more disappointing since Canelo is a guy who weighs around 173-174 pounds on fight night.
That's true. the closest is Manny fighting above 140 at 144, 143, 145, 151 and 144 again. but he worked in 2 at 147.

Its hard to call it right and wrong. Its been like this a long time. The only good thing is if you lose in these types of fights it doesn't hurt you (speaking just from GGG's or the b sides perspective) and a win elevates you even more given the circumstances.

Yeah, I figure Floyd/cotto 2 would happen and Floyd would vacate. Canelo is backed by ODH, he was the king of making a side demands. Just HBO never really reported it because he was the cash cow.

A few of those Pac fight catchweights were against guys from 140 pounds so it didn't seem too bad to me like against Marquez, Algeiri was coming from 140..in those cases the catchweights were probably beneficial to both sides. Not the Cotto fight though. And if he would have made Mosley, or Floyd (haha) or Clottey or any 147 pound fighter, come down to 141 pounds...how absurd would that have been, seriously? I couldn't imagine how terrible that would have been. And that is exactly what Canelo would be doing here.

Canelo is his own man and Oscar needs Canelo more than Canelo needs Oscar. If Canelo wants to fight GGG at 160, Canelo fights GGG at 160. Oscar works for Canelo not the other way around. But yeah, I'm sure Oscar has some kind of influence over the young ginger.

I'm not reaching I don't care about the whole catchweight thing across the board.

If some of you anti-catchweight cats are like vegetarians who only eat veggies (ie catchweight is always bad) or eat veggies & fish/chicken (ie catchweight is fine between champions in different weight divisions) is your own debate, not mine.

I don't disagree with anything you said regarding the weight of title fights.

Canelo is going to follow ODH unless he really ****s up.

              Any big PPV fight.

Remember when it was "Nobody from 154-168 survives 12 rounds with Golovkin"

Then it was "anyone from 154-160"

Now its "We are only focusing on 160"

Nowadays we have guys fighting in made up weight classes for legit titles and politics between promoters and Managers that stop fights from happening on a regular basis..

Say what ya want about Arum and Don King back in the day but those fools made the fights that we all talk about as classics today...
                ^^^^^^ This

It's truly pathetic that Triple Tune up only cares about pay days..Boxing should be about going after the best and making memorable fights.. So glad we have guys like Kovaleve ..And even Wladimir Klichko who actually want yo be recognize as the very best and put money as a 2nd priority !

Nelo is loyal to a fault. Ggg needs to take that 155 offer and get that money.
