I understand your point. I think GGG, much like Canelo before Floyd, will be tied to his words. The reality is Canelo doesn't need GGG.

Most fans already think GGG is the best MW so the only thing he really wants is the belt/lineal MW title and superstardom.

They can strip Canelo (unlikely because of the higher fee the WBC gets from him). HBO could choose GGG over Canelo (unlikely because Canelo is younger and has a huge fanbase and is the cash cow once Manny retires).

This sucks for GGG but again the way he and his team acted lately I don't feel sorry for them. When you play the "big boy" card, don't get mad when someone else plays it on you.

Ward at 168 is in no way similar to Canelo at 155.

Fights for lineal or titles should be at the title limit. No exceptions.

Fights between weight classes are whatever is agreed. If the smaller fighter outgrew his division, he can move up the full division. If he didn't, he can ask for a catchweight or ask the heavier fighter to come down to his weight.

Yea I suspect 155-157 will be the decided catchweight. Just depends on who bends. This is a huge opportunity for both guys, but mostly for GGG cuz money matters more than belts these days. I think once we got PPV numbers in for Canelo vs Cotto, K2 & GGG will realize to grow GGG into the PPV entity they wanna grow him into fighting Canelo at 155 is a great gamble for them.

Canelo is still a wuss for asking for this though.
I assume you think GGG is a wuss for proposing 164 for Ward. Everyone's a wuss today. Well every man who fights other men in a ring & could die are wusses. Couch dwellers are the real men today

I differentiate because they are literally not the same thing. If Golovkin held a title at 168 pounds and demanded catchweights from other SMW's, then yes, it would be the same thing. But that isn't the case.

And fuck off about the whiny shit remark faggot.

The primary issue is use of leverage. GGG used his leverage to try and dictate terms to Ward rather than fight him at 168. Canelo is doing the same thing to GGG rather than fight him at 160. To call that "forming his own weight class" is over the top hyperbole.
Hyperbole??? Canelo has literally fought his last four fights at 155 pounds. Canelo literally said Golovkin needs to come down to my weight class of 155 pounds. He has created his own weight class because he's too big and too lazy to make 154. Who does that?

I'm pretty sure they'll take some sort of catch weight. Canelo is definitely the star between the 2 but I think they could sell out something like Cowboys stadium if they fight. It's a huge fight and GGG better do everything he can to make it happen... If he doesn't then what's the point of his career? To stay at middleweight and fight average fighters forever? That's not how legends are made..

Ward needs to step up and fight Golovkin at 168. ROC would promote the fight and make it PPV worthy.

One is peanut butter and jelly the other peanut butter and jam. both are PB&J sandwiches. Not the exact same, but the differences are too miniscule to act as if they can't be compared.

I don't think he created his own class but Your criticism is fair. The Lara fight definitely should've been at 154.

What Canelo is doing has been done for years. The guys that want it, deal with it and go get it.

I think its hard for GGG to complain given how he and his team have navigated the Ward situation and how often he himself said he could easily make 154.

Agreed. GGG kind of overplayed his hand. GGG is a Full House, Canelo is 4 of a kind.

No man, it hasn't been done before. Catchweight fights in general have been made of course, traditionally two guys in two separate weight classes "meet in the middle" for the sake of making a big fight. I don't recall, ever a time in recent history, where a guy has fought FOUR TIMES in a row just a single pound over a weight class, fought for the lineal title and then demands he defends that title at his own created weight class. This is a first as far as I can tell and it's honestly absurd.

This isn't even about Golovkin vs Canelo anymore this is about what is right and what is wrong and how boxing should handle these types of situations.

This is exactly why I feared Sergio Martinez would lose to Cotto. I called this before the fight. I didn't think it would be Canelo in the end though, I thought Mayweather would probably be in the mix and those true welterweights/small JMW's would be passing around the middleweight crown. This is probably more disappointing since Canelo is a guy who weighs around 173-174 pounds on fight night.

It's not the same thing man. Catch weights between champions at the same weight class is straight up *****. It is not the same as making a fight between guys in different divisions. You guys are really reaching.
