Because Ward was trying to make all the demands and get everything his way. All the while fighting twice on HBO in 3 years, whereas Golovkin fought 3 times on HBO in a year, all with higher ratings than Ward. Ward thinks he is some sort of draw that people care about, and he is flat out wrong. He isn't even that good, his best wins are a headbutt fest against Kessler (in his hometown) a good win over Froch (in his hometown) and made Dawson come down an entire division and of course it had to be in Oakland or there wouldn't be a fight. Ward has the Floyd diva complex without bringing in any Floyd type of money.

At the end of the day, Golovkin and his team claimed they would be willing to fight anyone from 154-168 but then act all funny when asked about Ward.

Ward is doing fine, if they both retired today Ward would be the more remembered fighter as one of the ATG at 168 who beat the best of his era. Golovkin would be remembered as a world class fighter who was heavily hyped by HBO beating c/d level fighters.
