  • Comments Thread For: Algieri Admits Mayweather Would Logically Be Next

WBO junior welterweight champion Chris Algieri (20-0, 8KOs) started the year with an ESPN Friday Night Fights showcase, winning a decision over Emanuel Taylor. He made his debut on HBO in June, winning an upset split decision over heavily Ruslan Provodnikov to capture the WBO crown. And now he returns to the ring on November 22nd in Macau, when he faces superstar Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38KOs) for the WBO welterweight crown on HBO Pay-Per-View.

If Algieri pulls of another shocking upset, by defeating one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world - there is only challenge left, he admits, and that's WBC/WBA welterweight and junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (46-0, 26KOs) [provided he defeats Marcos Maidana on September 13]. Why slow down? I believe this guy is the modern day Gene Tunney, a good slick boxer who is not from the hood. Tunney is the creator of the stick and move style. I like his confidence this is why I am picking him more now than ever to beat Pac and out box him. His confidence was the same going into the Ruslan fight and you guys laughed.

The guy just beat a beast and a man who is more aggressive and hits harder than Pac, Chris will have easy work with an aging Pacman.

Stylistically speaking Chris should be the favorite going in. there is no way Pacman will be able to close that distance on the longer taller quicker fighter no way. He was able to do it against tall flat foot guys like Margarito and Oscar, but Chris is almost moving backward and sticking his long arms out. Think Pac Mosley but if Mosley were to actually throw punches while backing up, Pac will have a tough time with this fight.

                    Confidence..

....whoever are the idiots picking him to beat Pac because he is confident" need to be committed. They have NO boxing knowledge and shouldn't be allowed close to a Boxing sites comment area.

Now he calls out Mayweather? This one trick pony's ride is done 4 rounds into the fight with Pac.

Algieris 15 minutes of fame will be reducced to 12. What an incredibly deluded goof ball.
