I do not know why people are celebrating this. If the WBC/WBA can cancel the fight, that's one thing, but to not sanction it, IMO, makes it worse. For whatever reason, if Salka is able to pull off a victory, he does not get the titles, and Garcia is a sham champ. If the fight is going to happen, it should be sanctioned, it is not fair to Salka.Comment

If you beat the champion, regardless of how the fight comes about, you are the champion. I'm all for canceling the fight, but if it's going to happen then it is unfair. The WBC/WBA should strip Danny for taking such a fight, and not reward him by guaranteeing he will be the champion regardless of his performance. Even if he loses he can still get big money fights just because of those belts.Comment

Sounds great at first, but it only means he gets to keep those belts even if he loses against Salamander. It's all empty words, and their attempt at setting an example falls flat on its face. After the fight he's only going to vacate anyway and move up to WW, leaving the LWW division no closer to being unified.Comment

Salute to Teddy Atlas for standing up for the sport. Now the bigger picture is, do we have a Garcia who is shot? Or just needs to go up in weight a division? He's had some serious challenges lately, and the Herrera fight seemed to take its toll. We'll see in the next couple fights how he is, that is AFTER the Salka fight.
Funny thing about this, years back in boxing, up until maybe the 50s/60s, non-title bouts were very common for champions. Not so much these days.Comment
