Why Does Andre Ward Not Move Up to 175lbs and fight Sergey Kovalev?

I don't understand it. He's mentioned 175 before, and Kovalev is one of the best fights he could be involved in. I'm confident he'd win, too.

It's like Ward has decided Chavez, Golovkin, or nothing at all.

Because there is no money at 175 and he knows it. All the potentially big fights are with fighters at 160. And like Roy Jones, moving to 175 would be a death knell where you're trapped in no man's land.

stevenson, hopkins and pascal offer decent pay days. not as much as chavez, froch or golovkin, granted, but nothing to turn your nose at either.

i predict that after the numbers are in for golovkin's next fight andre ward will lose much of his negotiation power for that fight anyway. how can he demand golovkin fight him on his terms when golovkin is the money man?

I think he will eventually. He's not going to have a choice but he's doing the right thing now, waiting things out. I bet the second he moves up, whether it's for one fight or not, everyone at 160 considering a move to 168 will say he's "too big."

Hopkins is on Showtime, so is Stevenson. So you're talking Kovalev and Pascal. I actually wouldn't mind either fight and I do think he eventually moves up. But Golovkin has the potential to be a bigger fight than the two so Ward is right to wait.

Ward shouldn't say GGG is ducking him because it's ****** and untrue but Ward is desperate for a big money fight. Ward can't get big money fights with GGG, Froch or Chavez because he wants too big a share of the money. Ward needs to realize he is not popular and take less money but he prices himself out of fights.
