    What is Amatuer boxing like

Hello this is my first post. Im a huge boxing fan and was thinking about actually competing in the future( just amatuer though). Can you guys tell me what its like. How dangerous is it. People say that the head gear doesnt really protect you. Im 19 yrs old and in college. I have no prior boxing training but id say that im very physically fit as ive played football and ran track back in highschool, and i also started wrestling as club sport in college. Do you think i can make it at such a late starting age. I just really love boxing its litterally all i think about lmao. Any advice?

If this is really your first time here then please make your way to the Training Section and repost this thread.

NSB is for current pro news, not AM/training questions.

I'll answer the question, I was in the ams for quite some time and it's damn fun. But you gotta be ready for sacrifice, time, family, certain foods and drink, all that **** but as you've already competed in other sports you know that already.

now the headgear isn't full proof, you can and will get KD, you will get hurt and maybe stunned. But that's boxing.

It is safe..the headgear is used to prevent cuts,it takes a little from the impact but you still get headaches..it was and is a great learning experience and is something you can talk about for the rest of your life

Definitely have to agree with this, I competed I had a record of 6-2. The head gear does protect you and the gloves you fight with have a lot more padding then pro gloves. I had to stop due to a back injury and the politics involved in it is just crazy. Everytime I fought for the golden gloves I always beat the guys up and they gave them the win. I fought at 123 Lbs so there aren't that many people in it. But weight classes from 140 lbs and up is filled with competition. That's why you really have to train hard to give the guy a beating.

Let your hands go because the Am's are built on the point system......

Here's some advice if your in College don't box you can still ruin your brain. I box 6 years in the amateurs you still take heavy shots to the head. I only recommend boxing to youth who are on the wrong path and need something to correct the path their going. Anyone who tells you different has never boxed like most ******s on this site they think their boxers cause they watch Mayweather fights and put cheap Wal-Mart gloves and box with their home boys in the back yard

Dude stop lying no body competes in the Golden Gloves with a 6 and 2 record. Golden Gloves start in their District State and National.
