  • Comments Thread For: Lara's Co-Manager Eyes Canelo-Cotto Conspiracy

A few days have passed, but Erislandy Lara and members of his team are still fuming over last Saturday's split decision loss to Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. One judge had Lara as the winner with a card of 115-113, while the other two judges saw Canelo as the winner with scores of 115-113 and 117-111.

The fight was close, which neither side disputes, but many writers [and fighters] have suggested that Lara needed to do more in order to beat Canelo. Bob Santos, who co-manages Lara with Luis DeCubas Jr., disputes that theory.

Something was definitely fishy with Levi Martinez. It was a close fight, I had it 114-114 and am totally ok with Canelo getting the nod, but that scorecard was just corrupt.

In all honesty I can see how close fights can be harder to score. Sometimes the round is so close it can swing one way or another depending on just a punch or 2. Many of those rounds were swing rounds. If you give Canelo a few swing rounds in addition to the rounds he won clearly, I can see how one judge can have it a bit wider than the others.

Even though I think Lara won (7-5) he didn't do himself any favors by talking all that **** he talked before the fight and then fighting the way he did. That doesn't mean he didn't deserve to win it just means ppl ain't gonna feel sorry for him cuz he was suppose to school the hell outta Nelo and didn't.

Something's up with LEVI MARTINEZ ... I doubt we have to see him judge again which is good but doesn't change what already happened.. That was a close fight where we really needed a third competent judge..
