with a last name like Martinez, maybe it was just as simple as a judge being Hispanic.. and Hispanic/latinos love to fight, they love to watch brawls... If that is the case then maybe 117-111 was just because that judge was seeing canelo be the aggressor and come forward all night.. if you judge it that way then from rounds 6-12 it was all caneloComment

Not a robbery but a raw deal. Canelo is a great fighter. You can't beat him 118-110. There is only 1 Money May. When you only have 2 judges scoring the fight fairly you are at a handicap.
Going by the press scores, there was a 33 percent chance that he would have given Lara the nod, a 39% chance for Canelo and a 28% chance it would have been a draw. I have no problem with the decision but downplaying the role that bogus card played is being nothing short of delusional.
we use that word more often than we should...Comment

Lara didn't help himself with all the trash talk. He had me believing poor Canelo was going to be ruined. Lara ran his mouth then he ran in the ring. He built up expectations and when he didn't deliver, he was penalized. Don't talk so much and people won't expect so much.Comment

So basically what you are saying is neither guy did enough to win and the guy who did the least won and thats ok? Here's something Lara would like to point out to you.
The majority of press scores, where mexicans dont get a vote dont lie like they said before the fight themselves when the experts said Canelo was favorite. "the experts doe".
The only good thing that comes out of this is they cant use the 1 judge insurance policy strategy anymore it would be too obvious. Cj Ross and Levi Martinez messed it up for the future.Last edited by DannYankee; 07-15-2014, 10:49 AM.Comment

I certainly agree with that, but you needed to make that clear. Your original post suggests that the crowd is automatically correct, "might makes right."
I agree with much of this. I don't know if that judge was bought or simply incompetent. We agree he did a poor job, and that's enough. My point was, that "judge" was the deciding factor. If he had been replaced by a competent official, the odds are almost 50% that the fight would've been either a draw or a win for Lara. (Using the Boxingscene poll as an example.) The issue here is, Lara didn't get a fair shake.Comment
