the only way I see Maidana truly not receiving a dime for switching the gloves is if he asked for something other than money (a guaranteed rematch maybe..who knows.)
It's possible. I just don't see Maidana and his team just submitting like that, when it was a great opportunity to get something out of it. Surely, Chino has somebody watching his back.
"So, you don't want me to use the gloves that the commission just approved? Okay, well, what will you give me to switch?" It could (should) have gone something like that.
If I was on Chino's team, that's what I would have done. And I don't know crap. I'm just a 2L. Imagine what his real deal lawyer would have done.
But maybe we should take him at his word.
I never said that. I'm not sure what you mean.Comment

I think its fair to assume Maidana definitely got paid for th glove switch. If it happened my guess is his team and ellerbee made a deal so he could have plausible deniability. What team wouldn't take $1.5 mil to wear gloves.
But maybe we should take him at his word.

"Oh you want to pay me more?"-type of thing. Very good for Chino. And Money May is awesome too. May didn't want to get hit by those gloves so he (presumably) paid him handsomely to fight in the foam gloves. That's good business right there. Everybody's happy.
However, I will take his word. It's really as far as we can go with the "conspiracy theories". Chino may very well have asked for something else.Comment

If they want to make a private deal on the gloves then fine. Just say that both camps came to an agreement without disclosing the exact details of the deal. That's all. Just dont say that you didnt accept any money to change gloves that the commission gave you the OK to fight in. That makes you look either very ****** or a liar!Comment

If they want to keep it under wraps, then they should be entitled to that. I'm not exactly sure how that works , as far as legally, but I imagine I'll run into that sooner or later.
I know you didn't ask me directly and I hope you don't mind me chiming in. I just thought it was a really good question. :-)Comment
