On one hand you can say, Canelo was the aggressor but he was missing. He wasn't effective.

But from the other point of view, you can say, Canelos body shots were bothering Lara. They forced him to move and made him reluctant to engage.

I'm with the first train of thought but Lara opened the door for the second statement from not doing enough.
Excellent point. There is a lot of subjectivity in scoring a professional boxing match. It's an inherent flaw. One guy sees defensive wizardry; the other sees cowardice. One guy sees purposeful movement; the other sees him being pressed. And on it goes. Reminds me of "Twelve Angry Men." lol (Great classic film, if you've never seen it.)

If one has a complaint, either do something about it or shut up. Writing messages on some boxing site on the Internet doesn't qualify. Get involved, write letters to the powers-that-be (as I have), take action. I accept how things are in boxing because I'm only willing to go so far. It just doesn't mean enough to me. If it did, I'd be out there protesting (which I have, in other fields). What guys like Lara need to do is take the bull by the horns and win in the most convincing fashion, not by ten freaking punches landed FFS.

    • Tables have turned lol.

Anything that happened before or after the fight is irrelevant. I find it interesting and not surprising that although a fighter did enough to win the main outcome although incorrect prevents us from actually realizing how the fight played out.

In most professional sports, winning by 1 or winning by 20 there is always a definitive winner. Lara could have done more to please us as fans... yes. Did he lose the fight... no.

Yes I watched the Alvarez-Angulo fight. I saw Canelo throw his much sharper, much faster combinations, move to another part of the ring, wait for the slow-plodding Angulo to catch up, and walk him into another combination. Wash, rinse, repeat. The only time he stood in and traded was in round 8 (the round you mentioned when he was like "c'mon!" and Angulo obliged). Since you're a fan of 'he-said, she-said', BJ Flores knows people in Angulo's camp that said he had to lose 50 lbs just to make weight for their fight, but it's not like we couldn't tell by his 45 minute ring walk.

I like the hypotheticals, those hold a ton of credence on NSB. True Story, bro.

If you don't think Lara won convincingly, I can't help you.
        You mean, like Lara?

And what are you talking about with this "he said, she said" shit? You don't know the proper use of that idiom. I saw and heard everything I just explained. I didn't get it from some third party.

Look. I had Lara 115-113. As far as I'm concerned, that's not especially convincing.

I used to get worked up over boxing decisions but not anymore. Everybody has a different criteria and aren't even consistent with their criteria from fight to fight.

All I can do is be a fan and hope to see my favorite fighters do what they do best. And in this case, a fighter I've enjoyed watching for many years finally made it to the big stage and hoped to get awarded a decision instead of going out there, snatching it and leaving no doubt.

          • It's clear that Lara didn't win people over, but he did win the fight by his ball hairs but still did more.

I've made that point myself before, D. In baseball, you don't get extra credit because a homer was a high, majestic 450 ft long bomb, as opposed to a 325 ft shot that barely makes it over the wall. But it's the way boxing is. Too much of it is subjective. The trouble really comes when you ask someone to judge the effectiveness of a punch. Judge 1: "Hmm, he took that pretty well." Judge 2: "Wow, that was a good shot." People rarely agree 100% on these things. That's why they have three judges. Even that doesn't work.

Yeah, like Lara. Neither one of them stood toe-to-toe with Angulo. They both moved and walked him into punches.

You seem to be stuck on what Lara said during pre-fight or on social media. So because you enjoy what people say so much, I figured you'd enjoy what people said about Angulo to BJ Flores going into his fight with Canelo.

I only saw four rounds that could be scored for Canelo -- 4, 8, 9, and maybe the 12th.

Me too, bro. I had a fight party that night. When the bout was over, I said, "I don't care what the score is, Lara won that fight." My brother's words were prophetic (well, not very, it is Vegas lol): "Hey, it's Vegas!"

I've been there done that too many times with this sport. I can't allow myself to blow a gasket every time there's a bad decision, especially when the winner really isn't, in the harsh light of day, all that clear.

                      2,4,7,8,9 I gave to Canelo.

2 and 12 were the close iffy rounds to me.
