Lara executed the gameplan to a T, but he had the wrong one. He needed to be more like Trout and less like himself. It's possible that increasing his output would've gotten him caught, so he simply didn't take the risks. It's ridiculous how the fight just slipped through his fingers. When Mayweather throws more punches, you did something wrong.

He does this in every fight, regardless of opponent. It's a flaw that has followed him throughout his career and screwed him over multiple times. He wasn't shelling up scared, he was measuring and measuring and measuring, but by the time he let loose he'd already endangered his ability to win the round.Comment

Lara did move TOO MUCH to be honest and I don't even know why, Lara was moving before Canelo threw punches.
I don't know if it is Lara or his trainer Ronnie Shields because most of Shields fighters fight like this (Charlo Brother Fight The Exact Same Way) and yes it is frustrating because they do it when it is UNNECESSARY!
Even Mayweather at times during the fight gets in the pocket and picks his opponents apart instead of using his legs for ALL 12 Rounds like Lara did.
Lara when he made Canelo miss...which he did A LOT, he should have been countering and throwing something but instead he would make him miss then walk all the way across the ring just looking back and Canelo
He blows CANELO away leaving NO DEBATE if he would have done some clean work on the inside and in the middle of the ring instead of just COMPLETELY fighting off of his back foot for ALL 12 ROUNDS. He was catching Canelo and was getting "Oohs and Awws" from the crowd in the first few rounds but then it became all back foot fighting WITHOUT THROWING PUNCHES (or just one punch and get to safety) and the smart thing Canelo did was just OUTWORK HIM or made it LOOK as if he was outworking him. Canelo stopped head hunting and started focusing on the body which was a smart adjustment on his part and he did slow Lara down with those body shot.
Lara must blame himself!Last edited by sicko; 07-13-2014, 12:25 PM.Comment

i agree 100% lara knew coming in he had to take it to canelo and he couldn't. i don't remember lara stadning his ground one time throughout the whole fight. i only remeber lara throwing one kind of punch..the one two which is pathetic if he is so gifted and brilliant throw an uppercut on the inside..lara is a disappointment..i never liked him, and the fact that people on this site were saying floyd was ducking lara makes this fight mean more then it really should. After the first round I thought maybe Canelo hadn't learned from the Mayweather fight. But then he came out and forced the action and it was his fight. I like how he seemed to know that once he got close Lara was going to try and turn him so Canelo would just throw a right. Sometimes it missed but sometimes it landed beautifully and threw off Lara's timing and pace. Lara knew coming in what he had to do to get a win and he wasn't willing to do it. He and his team have no one to blame but themselves.Comment

Face the fact that Lara was hit hard to the body in the middle rounds and the fight was changed from that point on. Hell, Canelo hit him with only 15 punches to the head and cut his eye and swelled him.
And punches landed, well neither fighter did well over 12 rounds. 200 punches between 2 JMW way below average.Comment

If this fight was for Lara's title most dudes would be saying Canelo didn't do enough to stop the champ's style.Comment

canelo won in my opinion..he brought the fight to lara, and had him runnning around the ring. i saw no ring generalship from lara, just one two and run.Comment

My take....
Lara landed more punches and landed the solid shots, period. Whether he did it standing on his head or moving around, it doesn't matter. Alvarez missed most of the time and the body shots he did land were few and far between. People say you can't win a fight running away, you also can't win a fight simply walking forward eating punches and missing away!Comment
