Comments Thread For: Juanma is Open To Facing Gamboa at 130-Pounds

MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Several years ago, when both fighters were promoted by Top Rank, Juan Manuel Lopez (34-3, 31KOs) vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa was one of the most talked about fights in boxing.

Most believe the fight should have happened sooner than later, but Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum was attempting to build the fight into a pay-per-view attraction.

The fight was basically a dead issue after Juanma was knocked out in back to back fights with Orlando Salido, and then Gamboa (23-1, 16KOs) parted ways with Top Rank.

Both ends seem to be willing to finally get down. I love Lopez and his ever exciting style but Gamboa might be too much for him at this point. Gamboa has the speed and power to neutralise JuanMa's power for the first few rounds and possibly stop him early. If JuanMa can survive the cyclone of fists that will hit him early on and Gamboa tires, JuanMa can probably time a bomb on Gamboa as he comes in and drop him for sure. It might be a few years late but it will still be a great fight. Hope Vargas wins this weekend but if he doesn't JuanMa vs Gamboa would look like the next possible fight for both ex FeatherWeight kingpins.

I'm down for this, got no problem with it. Both fighters' stock has reduced big time over the years, so if there's ever a time for them to finally meet in the ring, it's now. Should be a great all-action fight while it lasts.

      I sez: Gamboa KO3.

No let's allow this fight to marinate a bit more "Arum-style"

I don't agree this is a horrible mismatch at this point. Juanma should retire before he gets permanent brain damage. Gamboa would destroy him in like 2 or 3. Juanma doesn't react right to punches he receives. His balance is horrible.

I wouldn't mind this fight. Suck it happens after both suffer losses, but would still be very exciting

According to Bet365 JuanMa is the underdog tomorrow night, he's 11/10.

Is this Vargas guy pretty good, then? He's must be a decent talent to be favour against JuanMa.

If juanma ends up like mago then y'all will be saying oh they shouldn't have allowed him to fight. I'm not even excited about this fight. Any decent fighter with a pulse should be able to beat juanma at this point and this is coming from someone who was a HUGE fan of his
