Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Praises Mayweather For Taking Rematch

Oh god. Here we go with the bull*****. What part of De La Hoya's business model did Mayweather emulate? You can't just throw some pronouncement out there like that without any explanation. And please name one fighter that Mayweather "ducked".He's not questioning the ducks way of making more money (after all, he emulated DLH business model
). I think what the poster is saying is that at the present time, DLH is being an intelligent business man by reaching out to former promotional rivals i.e. Arum and boxing rivals i.e. and playing the "kool" game in order to acquire business relationships and in turn maximize his revenue.
Whereas other unintelligent ****** thugs will publicly bash another fellow athlete and fellow "businessman" (I don't consider the duck a businessman, he's to ****** to be one, more like a man with natural boxing talent at the right place and the right time, with the right people around him) only to come back like a dog between his tail

The only fighters that have a chance of beating Floyd imo are Lara, Thurman and Porter. Thurman is a legit threat.. Probably even the most legit of the three. The fight could generate a Million buys if Showtime promotes Keith Thurman as the risk to Floyd that every real boxing fan knows he is.Well, we know most of the boxing communtity buys the PPV either to see Mayweather win or lose. Most times to see him lose. You smoking something if you think Mayweather/Thurman will do a Million buys right now.... I would believe you more if you said Mayweather/Pacman
I think this rematch has a lot of build up just b/c of how competitive their first fight was. Maidana/ Mayweather did 800,000 buys? So Im assuming they can do better
You should also assume it (Mayweather/Maidana II) could do worse. Many fans including myself believe a rematch is not necessary and believe it or not "casual fans" are not as dumb as you think.. Most of the casuals I know won't pay for this rematch.Comment

Already a Money fan, now I'm in AWE..good for him...makes me sick to think of all the boxers risking their health and future just to put $$$ in everyone else's pocket....no matter what you think about him, you should be impressed by his business sense!!!Comment

- Breaking away from Arum
- Fighting on Mexican holidays
- Launching a promotional company (although a horrible failure for the duck
)

You're right, he's doing something better than what the duck attempted to do, which is to own a successful promotional company.He could not be emulating ODLH because ODLH didn't do what Floyd is doing. If ODLH was a great businessman, he would've known how many fighters were signed to contracts with GBP. B-Hop says ODLH was coming to meetings once or twice a year. ODLH is reaching out to Arum, and that's a nice gesture, but I don't see Arum reciprocating. Would you consider Don King and Bob Arum thugs?
I consider Don King a thug but not Arum.
