Some of you need to be realistic.
Yes, Arum and De La Hoya are on better terms right now. But there's nothing to suggest Arum and Haymon will do business together.. Getting rid of Schaeffer was a first step, but the Cold war is not over.

That eliminates a bunch of potential opponents.

As for Top Rank, Algieri has the most recent notable win out of the welterweight guys.

    Algieri,Abregu, Provo and Alvarado.

Basically, if you're just looking at Top Rank. Algieri and Abregu were the best possible opponents.

again algieri is #3 ranked jr welterweight, wbo world champ, a tall and slick rangy pure boxer, prime, undefeated, etc. etc.

it doesn't matter if no one knew him before because EVERYONE knows him now. stop looking into the past. people didn't know who pacquiao was until he demolished the heavy favorite ledwaba.

and how is algieri not a legit opponent, but you consider guys like karass and josesito decent/legit wins???? stop hating it's obvious.

algieri is an american dream story in the making before our eyes. stop hating on this guy. he stepped into fire and beat the siberian beast they call provo.

          give the guy some credit!
Someone like Karass, Lopez, or Broner would be legit decent fights for guys like Maidana or Algieri, not for Floyd or Pac. Those are the kind of fights you take before you fight a Floyd or Pac.

Algieri has 1 legit win at 140 lbs. He should have more fights at 140 to become THE GUY there or move up to 147 and like Maidana fight some decent fighters there before fighting Pac. I'd have no problem then.

Beating 3 decent guys at 147 is more deserving of fighting for the 147 title, and by the way 1 of those wins was against a title holder, than beating 1 title holder at 140 and fighting for the 147 title.

          Hope that helps.

okay so in order to get a pac fight you need to beat a karass or lopez type fighter? well algieri beat provo who was a world champ and leagues above karass and lopez. so then you agree that algieri deserves a shot at pacquiao!

provo >>>>>> lopez, karass and broner combined

stop with the hate and give credit! you are being blinded by the hate in your heart.

i think i know why you're angry and you're hating this fight. it's because this year pac will have fought TWO undefeated and highly ranked world champions.

it makes you angry to see someone take on legit competition back to back while floyd takes on mediocre competition.

salsa not coming off a stand out win like algieri. salsa never stepped into fire like algieri has and came out a world champion and loved by all. what has salsa done to deserve praise? you tell me this.

stop hating algieri, he is a good and honorable man and is the full embodiment of the american dream.

Pacquiao was a nobody like Algieri and he was a lat minute scrub opponent for Ledwaba and he mollywopped him. We at least seen Chris and stylistically from the eye test and the way he handled the most feared 140 pounder in the game, he has proved himself a worthy capable boxer, with a style nightmare for a guy like Pac.

Chris is kinda in Pacs shoes when Pac was on HBO, at 122 people saw him, but he was the heavy underdog because he was going up in weight to 126 to fight Barrera, he was like a 15-1 underdog nobody even thought he had a chance, he WASNT RANKED AT 126 either.

Fighters move up in boxing, but the problem today is A lot of the Mayweather fans are hating and belittling guys especially Pacman so they can bring down accomplishments, before 24/7 and the flowmo culture, nobody cared bout catchweights, etc, or guys moving up. Nobody said Hagler was a scrub who best wins were against blown up welters, they consider Hagler a legend.

i would give Floyd mad props if he fought Chris Algieri too, I just like the style match up, its a risky fight, he can move and box, with lots of stamina and heart.

This fight is acceptable because by some miracle Algieri might win.

Yeah my reply is an exaggeration but so is this whole thread. Algieri imo didn't do enough to win. Anyway, let's just say he did for argument's sake, that he did enough to beat Provo in a good competitive fight. He has ONE stand out win on his resume and he becomes a live dog against Pacquiao?
