Comments Thread For: Andy Ruiz-Nagy Aguilera Clash is Set For August 9th

Top Rank, in association with Bash Boxing, Art of Boxing Promotions, and the Glendale Civic Auditorium in Glendale, California, will bring Solo Boxeo Tecate on Unimas back to the "***el City" on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 6:00pm.

In the main event, rising undefeated Mexican-American Heavyweight prospect, Andy "The Destroyer" Ruiz Jr. (22-0, 16KOs), will defend his NABF and WBO Intercontinental Heavyweight titles against world class veteran Nagy "Dominican Dynamite" Aguilera (19-8, 13 KOs). Ruiz, the former amateur standout and Mexican Olympic Team member, has quickly ascended the pro ranks in his last three bouts by displaying his speed and explosiveness in early knockouts of Manueal Quezada (28-9), Tor Hamer (21-2) and previously undefeated prospect Joe Hanks (21-0).

Aguilera is a decent journeyman but I doubt he has what it takes to pull an upset. I would like to see ruiz step it up but he is in no hurry & Aguilera should give him a few rounds. he is climbing the rankings & getting close to a big fight.

I like Ruiz but has he done enough to be ranked #2?? Bob Arum is really tight with the WBO apparently.

Ruiz has great speed and a lot of skills, but he really needs to start training and living like a professional. Talent can only get you so far. I know HW boxing is no beauty contest but an athlete in his early 20s shouldn´t look like Butterbean.

I agree, he looked, for a little while, like he was serious and then he got fat again. He isn't in shape and he's been at it long enough to know what needs to be done. No self control, it's going to cost him.

I have ZERO respect for Ruiz's dedication. Zero. He's in disgraceful shape. But he has real talent and I expect him to beat seven shades of sheet out of Aguilera who has a good chin and good power-but is definitely a journeyman.
