First off, that's just the truth.. Don't like it? Too bad, deal with it...
What do the NBA, MLB, NHL, NFL.. Have in common? Easy, it's all under one league... What else, they're all on network television, not pushed off to premium cable channels, (I'll get to this part later)
The fact is, none of those league I just mentioned would be successful is there was another similar league also involved .you really think they don't know that? why do you think most of those leagues had some type of merge in the earlier days?.. Because they knew in order to be successful you had to have it under one umbrella, not two or three..
Let's get to the big one everyone will eventually bring up :ufc.... Say what you want about their pay (no idea why you care unless you're getting a cut) but Dana white was right when he said on first take "we don't have the same problems boxing has of not putting together the best fights, we don't have that problem where golden boy has this guy and Bob arum has the other guy and Don king has the other one... No what we did was go out and sign them all"
And that is why the ufc is eating up boxing, people know their champions, people know who they'll be facing next... People know....
. And people know that boxing can't get it right... Mayweather - pacquiao not happening did more damage to boxing than some even realized.. You don't think so because you're a boxing guy that shuts his ear off to the casual fan... But the casual fan? They're through with this sport.. No? Please go check ppv numbers (Mayweather- canelo an exception)
Boxing will never be on network television and remain a niche sport as long as it's under all these promoters because these promoters only look after themselves because again, they're all running their own leagues.. (why else Is bradley even mentioned to face cotto??) promoters will never put an opponent against a fighter of another promotion with the risk of losing everything just to please that "fans", because business, tthey're busines, will always come first.
the sport will never be legitimize until it's under one main promoter (ufc style).. And guess what, bob arum, richard Schaefer, AL haymon, they all know this..... oscar knows this and has stated it before.
Moral of the story, get used to it just being a niche sport on premium channels being shown on the smallest of small platforms , you want boxing on free television with the likes of the NBA and NFL, but say you don't want an ufc model??.. Sorry it doesn't work that way, so make up your mind on what you want cause if you're in favor of having 3 top promoters than quit complaining about boxing because this is what you get.
