Glove size can be negotiated and altered if both fighters agree. 54 is where commission says 10oz starts. Just like Floyd requested 10oz gloves for the Hatton fight. Both agreed, so they fought a welterweight fight with 10oz gloves.
As for Cotto. To me, it made no sense to fight a smaller guy and lighter hitter. And one who has a history of hand problems with with bigger gloves. But to each his own.Comment

this whole glove fiasco is so ****** as well as peoples reactions to it.
mayweather is a-side and he can and will force other fighters accept his way or gtfo. it is his a-side right. he put in his time and payed his dues so why not try to get every single advantage possible. Unfortunately, it comes at a cost of his reputation. but who cares about that? the people that love him will love him no matter what and the people who hate him will hate him no matter what. so of course he will choose the scenario in which he gets paid and wins.
maidana was screwed no matter what in this fight. if he stood his ground, maybe floyd gives in and fights anyways or maybe floyd really does cancel the fight. I think floyd beats him anyways, and if floyd cancels, the legal stuff will be messy and time consuming. will maidana be able to sue and get paid in this decade? not to mention that floyd is under mayweather promotions LLC. i read that with LLC, the officers's personal funds cannot be sued and blah blah. so does that mean if showtime, investors, maidana, or whoever will be sueing has to direct the suit to mayweather promotions LLC which will get taken for the $1 they have in the bank account and the company goes under. a new one will be just be set up mayweather promotions II LLC.
maidana was already lubed up and bent over from the get go. this is what happens when a-side fights someone who has no leverage. i dont think they paid him to wear different gloves. i think he realized that he will be rigondeaux'd and probably have to go through alot of bs to even get the money from the fight if it was cancelled. maybe even have to pay his own legal fees.
gloves probably do not make as much difference as other make it seem, but you gotta admit, theres no way anyone will ever beat the elite of the elite without having 100percent efficiency. maybe going from puncher's gloves to pillows lowers your efficiency even only just 1percent. its still disadvantage.Last edited by davidandrei; 07-08-2014, 06:46 PM.Comment

The baby blue gloves were the issue because they were already broken in. The Grant gloves that Floyd usually uses in his fights are great gloves and more than suitable to get the job done in the ring. They are NOT "pillows" as some here would believe. For the record, Winning gloves which are VERY expensive and excellent quality are what Floyd, Manny and many fighters use while training because they are known to be the very best for protecting the fighters number one asset....his hands. Lets be real here - Both Floyd and Chino are warriors and fear nobody....period! and it's getting pathetic that this thread has become a merry go round of false accusations, misinformation and flat out fantasy. Bottom line....Floyd won the first fight and he has shown that he's man enough to give Chino his "do over" or rematch if you will so fans and alike should be satisfied with the upcoming fight and give all this silly BS debating a rest.
