  • Comments Thread For: Abner Mares Hopes To Face Top Rank's Featherweights

Former three division champion Abner Mares (26-1-1, 14KOs) will return this coming Saturday night against Jonathan Oquendo (24-3, 16KOs) as part of the Saul Alvarez-Erislandy Lara undercard from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight will be Mares' first since last August's first round knockout defeat to Jhonny Gonzalez.

Mares was initially planning to move up to 130-pounds in May, as part of the Mayweather-Maidana card, against WBC champion Takashi Miura. But then Mares changed his mind and decided to stay at 126-pounds.

Don't forget rigondeaux , who deafeted you 17-7 in a final for gold medal , in a pan nam games . This fight could be at 122 , or a catch weight of 124 , or at 126 but you can not weight more than 10 pounds fight night ? What about that ? Rigo will take it and will school you .

He would get KO'd against Donaire and Lomachenko. He should go back to 122 and get schooled by Rigo.

In 2012-2013 Donaire vs. Mares would have been a mini-mega-fight. Everyone wanted to see it. Both fighters' stock has fallen dramatically since then and today this is just a fight like any other. Lomachenko vs. Rigondeaux is much more intriguing in my opinion.

Abner please, you are afraid of rematching johnny gonzales.

Since the first match you been in hiding, I respect you cause you always took the tough matches but you know the saying the real sign of a champion is when he gets knock down how does he come back!

Yes. Any matchup with Lomachenko, Donaire or Walters would be good.

But he should rematch Gonzales first.

Put him in with Rigo so I never have to see him fight again.
