Take Cotto for example, he was matched steadily with a variety of different styles and gradually upped his level of competition and competed on even terms with pretty solid competition as result (in conjunction with decent skills of course). Whoever was advising him was good adviser. Even the example you gave (Mares) was matched properly, he just got caught against a monstrous puncher.

Haymon is not a good adviser, he's just a good con-man.
Great post! This is exactly what I mean. He fails to prepare his fighters for that next level.

Rofl at saying haymon is responsible for ruining boxing. Damn you guys are dumb. There's even a thread on here celebrating whenever a haymon fighter loses. Bunch of sad ***s

They do it to get a rise out of certain fans and it actually works

I mean seriously, who cares that much about a manager or whatever the hell he is?

But to be fair, there are some posters who are so pathetically obsessed with their hatred for Floyd that they celebrate the failure of anything associated with him. If Floyd's mailman got hit by a bus some moron would make a thread cheering about it.

And there are posters who are so obsessed with love for Floyd that they wank over anything associated with Floyd.

Wouldn't an "advisor's" job basically be the business equivalent of training, IE deciding when the fighter moves up to the next level?

That's a fair point you made. And to some degree you are right. But the way I see it is either a fighter has it or he doesn't. Haymon builds his fighters a certain way. He did it with Berto, Broner, Russell Jr, and now Thurman. Where your theory is flawed is when people rip certain fighters than praise others in the exact same situation. They hate Broner but love Thurman. Why isn't Thurman another Haymon hype job too? He came up the same way as Broner and Berto. Spoon fed bums up to this point. GGG has been spoon fed bums too. So when he gets his clock cleaned by Ward are you going to blame K2 promotions for not building him up properly?

Andre Berto is a multi millionaire. Floyd Mayweather makes more for a fight against a bum than Mike Tyson in his prime against a top hwt.

If al haymon is over rated than I pray I become over rated too.
