Winning and losing. Sugar Ray Leonard and De La Hoya. Picture where Leonard would be without wins over Hearns, Duran, Hagler and Benitez; now picture where De La Hoya would be with wins over Trinidad, Mosley, Hopkins, Mayweather (Pacquiao has been excluded because history would see it as a cherrypick).

So is Chavez Sr TBE? You know, he put his health first when quitting against De La Hoya.

If you already have a whole country behind you, it helps.

I see alot of you just do not get it..i am not talking about resume..i am talking about talent and what gets you there in order to win. Ya'll are so caught up on opinions of fighters that you seem to not understand what it even takes to get to the grand stage and succeed... all the sweat all the blood tears and hardwork..i am not going on about resumes because a resume cannot be built without dedication, hardwork and sacrifice...what i am asking is when eacj fighter does this why do some succeed and some do not

The belief , the confidence, the drive to win despite adversity - it all comes from knowing you put in the hard work and knowing you have the skill

                Preparation and Intelligence.

Sometimes a great fighter just sees certain things others can't. All great fighters have great fighting instinct and their own distinct style and set of strengths.

what separates them?? is it natural talent?? heart?? boxing IQ?? work ethic??

what is it that takes you to that next level?
All of the above? Sometimes they possess one thing more than the other, but all those things determine where they end up, and some of them cant be taught like heart and boxing IQ for me they fall under talent. A good work ethic however can always be cultivated, and make up with other skills whatever talents are lacking somewhat.

Focus, determination in combination with "god" given ability. Really the only thing separating hall of fame type fighters and atg are resume.

The elite and above tend to have that other level determination. You see guys with desire at the levels below with that "Im not giving up I will try to win" mentality but then you have the guys above who are more like "i WILL win".
I think mental fortitude goes such a long way especially in applying their craft.
