My worry from Kovalev's perspective is that he will be respectful. That he'll approach this fight as "Wow, I'm fighting Bernard Hopkins!"

I can't underestimate Hopkins's ability to do that to fighters.

Surprised no one has picked up on this. I still remember him dropping to his knees after that Roy Jones rabbit punch in the rematch. But I think Hopkins got this. Kovalev isn't really proven to me although he is a top lhw. So Hopkins gets a middling win and fights on. As much as I respect him, I honestly don't know if that's a good thing for the sport.

Hopkins is all good being dirty and "old school" but when he gets it back he crys about it. He's old but I don't see it as an excuse.

But I'm also leaning on Hopkins.

This ^. Kovalev needs to brawl a bit if necessary, shove BHops around give him some dirty back. The only thing is I ain't so sure this 'll be Kovalevs forte with his amateur background.

The kinda fights he's been in have never really pushed him in a way that he's had to develop these kinda roughhouse techniques, so I'm hoping JDJs been working on just this kinda s#it with him in camp.
