Hopkins is a great fighter and one of the best of his era just because I don't rate him as highly as the younger crowd seem to these days doesn't make me a "hater".

All I ever do is speak truthfully about Hopkins. Criticise him when he deserves it and vice versa.

      my bad fair enough irondan

      but atg lists :

criteria - skill level/ability, resume and longevity

hopkins has better resume and longevity

if jones retired after ruiz, it would be hard to argue anyone of this era is greater than him but he exposed the fact that once his legs went, he didnt have the fundamentals to fall back on because he could rely on his athleticism

Well yeah if you put those knockouts and losses against him while he was shot then yeah I can see that. But I don't do that.

Hopkins has the longevity for sure, that's obvious.

But that's the only advantage I see Hopkins having over Jones.

A lot of posters have said Hopkins has the better resume. But in all honesty I can't see it. His MW reign, whilst long didn't really have many great names on it. I suppose all in all his best win is either Tito or Tarver. He has some good names like Pavlik and De la Hoya too - but they were fought at weights that were very favorable to Hopkins. Roy Jones Jr beat better guys at the weight they had been campaigning in for years and moved up in weight to fight champions. I mean, I really can't even see a case for Hopkins having the better resume.

Hopkins is in my opinion doing what Garcia did with Matthyse. He is taking on the monster in his prime that no one believed he would fight and to an extent what Cotto did when he signed to fight Sergio( not in the prime sense, but in the consensus that most were shocked at the challenge and believe Cotto would be KOed)...

The Floyd Hopkins comparison is too early, it's like having an opinion on a book before you finish reading the end. But they are close. Respect to both.

                  Nor me.

It's something I see more from newer fans.

Why do people mention floyd in regards to this fight or any fight that he's not in?
