Comments Thread For: Miguel Vazquez Explains The Move To Add Al Haymon

IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez (34-3, 13KOs) explained his decision to sign a contract with powerful adviser/manager Al Haymon. Vazquez signed a three year agreement, with Haymon's right hand partner, Sam Watson, handling the execution. Vazquez's Mexican coach Javier Capetillo was also present.

Vazquez, who became a world champion in 2010, wants to be more active. He only fought eight times in four years. He hopes to fight again on August 30th or the first Saturday in September, with Showtime potentially televising the bout.

      No explanation needed, Miguel.

Million dollar pay days to fight journeyman showing up for a check. Protection from all fighters who have a pulse (unless there's a purse bid mandated by a sanctioning body) no risk of injury, no risk of losing, milking your title against undeserving opponents until a decent fighter becomes mandatory and then vacate your belt and move up to repeat the same process.

What's not to like? Al Haymon is great for boxing!

Vazquez is gonna be hard to promote.. his icon is probably Willie Pep and that style doesn't really satisfy fans these days.

Although I find it enjoyable to watch depending if his opposition is same level/better.

Eddie Hearn wanted to bring Vazquez to the UK to defend against Kevin Mitchell.

            Doubt that happens now.

If Haymon made Floyd into the biggest PPV star, I don't see why it'd be hard to promote if he fights with a similar style to Floyd, hit and don't get hit!

HBO,Arum and Hate made Fraud into a star Gaymon had **** to do with that...Only "star" Gaymon has created is Danny Gifts Garcia.. Broner is also HBO made

edit: GArcias not even a prize fighter so that foo hasn't made any stars yet ... Canelo can be considered a star but he has no association with Gaymon

Where is all this talk about Haymon fighters being "protected" coming from? Was Floyd "protected" when he chose to fight Cotto @ 154? Was Floyd "protected" when he fought Canelo, or chose to fight Maidana over Khan? How about Broner? Was Broner "protected" from Maidana @ 147? Was Devon Alexander "protected" from Shawn Porter? Fighters choose Haymon to get them good fights, and good money. He has to be doing something good for the fighters or they wouldn't be seeking him, especially when they've already established a name for themselves.
