Damn good post1) Heart is a vital intangible and it can't be taught. It's ingrained in a person through life experience, and is why elite fighters & soldiers are almost always urchins of the ******. The person with nothing to lose and a ton of heart is primal.
2) Character (both in and outside the ring) is another huge component that seemingly goes largely ignored these days.
3) Self-discipline (again, both in and outside the ring) can't be understated in the development of an elite fighter.
Add those intangibles to someone w natural speed & power, and you've a trainer's wet dream.Comment

not really...i would rank a fighter with inferior skills/attributes higher than another fighter who's suppose to achieve more with what he have but can only muster the same accomplishments...substance over form.Comment

Its to me about will to win, imposing your best attributes on your opponent, the ability to adjust mid fight to a fighter you are having difficulty with, nullifying your opponents strengths.
Attributes alone like speed/power don't mean that much really of they can't be effectively applied in some tactical manner. Take Herrera, talent wise should have easily lost to almost everyone he fights he is not much of an athlete at all and take Zab, mental midget with great talent should have wiped Baldo out easy.Last edited by Spray_resistant; 06-28-2014, 04:04 PM.Comment

Combination of EVERYTHING!
Ray Leonard instantly comes to mind for me even though I did not like him much but Ray Leonard was the "COMPLETE PACKAGE" and a Trainers DREAM.
Beyond the physical attributes, he had everything else on top of his physical gifts.Comment

it all boils down to accomplishments....skills is very important but your got to put them to test first and see what comes out of it before you can be considered great.Comment

Skill and technicality are not the same thing. Being technically "by the book" is probably the most overrated aspect of boxingComment
