Boxing=more then speed and power, lets look at what makes a great fighter

I know speed and power and all the flash is what fans jump to and think "hey this is what boxing is all about" But as hardcore fans, former fighters or boxing junkies we should know the little intangibles and small things is what makes the speed and power mean anything in the 1st place.

1-angles- the correct angle takes away another fighters punches and opens up angles for your punches

2-foot placement-once again opens up avenues for you to land punches and evade punches.

3-distance-knowing the correct distance needed to land and evade punches

4-timing-without timing speed and power means nothing

          stop complicating a simple thing.

accomplishments is what makes a great fighter. it's all about results and what kind of challenges you took to achieve those results.

I agree with what you're saying anyway, boxing is more than just speed and/or power but those two physical gifts, because that's what they are, certainly help. Having a good chin certainly helps too, because a time comes, in every single fighters career, possibly during a fight or maybe due to age, when technique, conditioning, skills will falter, it happened to Floyd against Maidana, where at times he looked lost in the ring but his chin and natural reflexes kept him in the fight and helped him to a narrow win. The same can be said of say, Timothy Bradley, when he completely, voluntarily deserted his boxing skills for a brawl, what got him through it were his innate, physical gifts.

fighting great fighters, beating them, holding titles, being recognised as the best in your division all certainly help but if you compare two guys with similar accomplishments, the dividing factor will be skills, technique, physical attributes.

                  1) Heart is a vital intangible and it can't be taught. It's ingrained in a person through life experience, and is why elite fighters & soldiers are almost always urchins of the ******. The person with nothing to lose and a ton of heart is primal.
                  2) Character (both in and outside the ring) is another huge component that seemingly goes largely ignored these days.
                  3) Self-discipline (again, both in and outside the ring) can't be understated in the development of an elite fighter.

Add those intangibles to someone w natural speed & power, and you've a trainer's wet dream.

In order to accomplished greatness you must first understand what you trying to accomplish and how to get there. You may be blessed with gifts such as speed and power but you also need to learn the science in fully applying the gifts you have been blessed with.
