Comments Thread For: Cedric Agnew Bounces Back With TKO Win in Houston

Cedric Agnew (27-1, 14KOs) came back from his seventh-round KO loss to Sergei Kovalev with a first round TKO victory over Shannon Miller (25-52-8, 18 KOs) at the Houston Athletic Fencing Center. Curiously enough, Agnew, a southpaw, ended the bout with a mirror punch that felled him for the full count against Kovalev.

In the final seconds of the opening round, Agnew, 31, exploded with a bone-crushing right hook to the ribcage that dropped Miller in agony. Miller beat the count but failed to come off his stool for the second round.

25-52? That's not bad, I guess. Coulda been 17-52. Quality win for Agnew.

LOL. Still - it was a TBA. At least the kid's got back in the saddle fast enough and KO1 is about as conclusive as it gets.

I actually think Agnew is pretty good based on what I saw in the Kovalev fight and could give real problems to many in the upper reaches of the division. Expect to see more of him.

Agnew is a barometer type fighter in a thin division expect him to be matched against someone trying to make a name gain experience.

Savarese Promotions has a guy Medzhid Bektemirov who fights at LHW but he's still pretty raw in a couple years could contend.

Agnew looked like he had the goods, he just ran into a cold blooded killer in Kovalev. Glad to see him back in the winners bracket.

LOL. Come on man. He just got flat out destoyed a couple months ago.

I wouldn't mind Agnew vs. Fonfara or the winner of Williams/Campillo next.

              What I'm interested in.

Fonfara.... I think he's saving himself for Kovalev

Yeah, I was thinking of the Campillo - Williams winner too. In fact even if Williams loses I think it'd be decent fight.

Both guys are at about the same level of development, though I think Agnew may be the more skilled fighter - it'd be good to see two promising prospects square off.

I agree. Matter of fact I wouldn't be upset if one of the big networks or even NBC set up Agnew vs. Fonfara on an undercard

It's good for Cedric Agnew to come back so soon after his loss and get back to winning ways, even if the opponent wasn't very good.

Some fighters take a year off after a stoppage loss, but I think it's better for them to come back sooner and have a confidence-building warm-up fight.
