Nicaraguan Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (39-0, 33 KOs) has a scheduled fight for his date with history.

On September 5th in Tokyo, Japan, González will attempt to become the 2nd Nicaraguan to become a three-time world boxing champion, when he faces Japanese, Akira Yaegashi (20-3-0, 10 KOs), who will defend his WBC Flyweight crown (112 lbs).

"Chocolatito" said he's delighted to get the opportunity to fight for a WBC title. He'll be facing one of the most talented boxers in the 112 pounds division.

From what I read and hear on reports, Chocolatito is a very nice and humble person. Best of luck to him and although logic says he will win, I'm rooting for Yaegashi with the upset.

It's hard not to like either of these guys but I'm pulling for Yaegashi too. I think Akira has the skill set and experience to win this fight but I'm not sure his eyes will hold up. His eyes swell up pretty easily and Gonzalez is a great offensive fighter who may be able to swarm the naturally smaller Yaegashi. But who knows Yaegashi fought Ioka for 8 rounds with both eyes almost completely shut. And I thought Ioka only won that fight by a point.

Gonzalez is a beast but his opposition besides Estrada and Fransico Rodriguez Jr have been terrible mismatches. And Rodriguez is at 105 and is scheduled to face Takayama in another great battle of little men. On the other hand Yaegashi has fought Egale Kyowa, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, Porpramook, Ioka, Sosa, and Igrashi in only 23 fights.

I'm just glad this fight is happening it's just too bad the networks are too ****** to show it here in the states. Winner of this fight deserves a serious p4p ranking. Flyweight is the deepest division in boxing right now.

I agree COMPLETELY on Akira's eyes but the competition is something we'll have to disagree with. It's not just Estrada and Rodriguez Jr that Gonzalez has beaten, how about Niida and Takayama? Amazing to to think that Gonzalez has beaten two fighters who are fighting each other in a unification bout!

As for Srisaket, it was SSR's debut.

Yeah it was his debut but Yaegashi only had 10 or 11 fights himself at that point and was rebuilding after his failed bid against Kyowa. And I agree that Gonzalez's wins over Niida and Takayama are very solid names but those fights happened in 2008 and 2009. Between 2010 to presently the only good wins Chocolatito has notched under his belt have been Estrada and Rodriguez Jr. And. Rodriguez's best win is over Sabillo who is good but definitely not great. IMO it's a shame to see such a great talent beating down over matched opponents. A lot less skilled fighters in or around 112 fight much stiffer competition. Both men have proved their metal against world class fighters, there's no denying that but the fact Yaegashi has faced 6 former, future, or current champs in his career is impressive. Almost a quarter of the fighters he's faced have been champions.

Exactly my thoughts, I love seeing the lower weights getting some more love on this forum. I've never really been that impressed with Gonzales, I think that nice looking record of his says way too much. But a win over Yaegashi deserves a lot of credit imo. I have Yaegashi UD.

I agree with both posts. WAR YAEGASHI! God I love Japanese fighters, they always bring the excitement.
