I agree. This was a card headlined by Robert Guerrero against a Japanese fighter no one knows. The second biggest name was Devon Alexander. Much as us hardcore fans wanted to see Lomachenko/Russell, we're not much.

    This is respectable.

Alvarez was a big name before Mayweather. One of the biggest.

Guerrero was a nobody before Mayweather, did little to make people care against Mayweather, and then spent a year out of the ring. There was never going to be any positive impact on his popularity because of that fight.

How is 835k for Thurman considered "lukewarm", but 614k for Guerrero respectable? Isn't that the lowest showtime rating in long time?

The place didnt look filled to me either. I saw a loooooot of empty seats.

Im not sure how much longer Showtime can keep this up. I cant inagine Espinoza keeping his job.

Thurman who was supposed to be much less known than Guerrero did better numbers. Guerrero also if I remember correct did better numbers vs Aydin. Who was also unknown.

The Arena was pretty empty this weekend. Ive been up to a number of fights at Stub Hub and usually the place is rockin and it's sold out. There were A LOT of empty seats this time. Maybe the place was 65% full. You could have easily bought the cheapest seat and walked down and snatched up a number of good seats.

Yea even on TV you could tell it was pretty empty. And they usually do a good job at hiding it. Showtime is hurting in attendance and viewership.

Thank you, that was precisely my point and why I compared it to a similar doubleheader this time last year. I swear, I wish people would read past the headline before commenting.

It's easy to bash the show for the money spent on it. But Lomachenko-Russell came with the price tag it did because GBP factored in the revenue generated from overseas TV rights (Lomachenko) before bidding that much, and why Top Rank's bid was just behind it.

Guerrero's A-side presence didn't warrant a $1 million payday for this fight, but that's a decision Showtime has to live with while staying in business with Haymon.
