Eric Gomez, Vice President and head matchmaker for Golden Boy Promotions, rejected any claims that his company mistreated WBA 'regular' junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12KOs) or showed any favoritism in Lara's upcoming fight against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (43-1-1, 31KOs), which takes place on July 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

In an earlier article on BoxingScene, Lara made it clear that he wasn't under a promotional contract with Golden Boy and voiced his displeasure with the way he was treated by their company.

Ok lets look at this from Lara viewpoint. Lara whips Angulo TKO, only to get passed up for a Canelo fight in favor of the man he beat. Then is put in with Trout who he beats. And still he has to run up in Canelo press conference before he can finally get the fight with Canelo. Yes, he is acting butt hurt, cause his style is not what the "fight watchers" wanna see, but he is a talented boxer with real skill that GBP most likely didn't want to expose Canelo to yet.

Lara said this in previous BS article before canelo/angulo:

"And if (Canelo) would've knocked Mayweather out he would've won. The problem here is he didn't and Angulo didn't win either. People forget even with the two knockdowns I was still winning on the scorecards, winning the tenth round and he quit. Lara doesn't get the business of boxing. The more hype Canelo gets, the bigger the fight and the payday is for him. Come on man. Keep your mouth shut before you **** up your money and get yourself blackballed.

Lara and his team are just putting the pressure on to ensure they don't get stiffed on the cards, which really I have no problem with.

There is another scenario though - Lara is a Haymon fighter. Al Haymon fighters don't often get robbed on the cards. Canelo is also Oscar's first and last cash cow - and a Lara win destabilises Oscar/GBP, and their alliance with Top Rank.
