Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez To Determine His Future After World Cup

Former two division world champion Sergio 'Maravilla' Martinez (51-3-2, 28KOs) will define his future after the World Cup concludes. Even though he is physically able to continue, his manager Sampson Lewkowicz said there is no determination at the present with respect to his fighter's decision to continue boxing.

Earlier this month, Martinez was knocked out in ten rounds by Miguel Cotto at New York's Madison Square Garden.

The only way Cotto beats anyone, is if they have weaker knees than his.

Football is probably the most popular sport in Argentina. If Sergio announces his retirement -or his decision to continue- few people, including the media, would care in his country because of the World Cup. Most Argentinians are focused on their football team right now.

He may have not suffered a knee injury in the fight but it's pretty obvious it's still shot along with his chin which was never great but still strong enough to take a good punch and still be able to continue fighting at a high level. He's pretty much on Roy Jones level after Roy was knocked out by Tarver. When a fighter who has been so highly dependent on his athleticism loses his gift his career is over. I'd like to see Sergio end on a positive note but I have no idea how he can achieve this. Maybe a rematch and final fight with Chavez Jr in Argentina?
