He had a month to get ready for this fight and had no sparring. I bet a lot of points on that man and he lost like a man. I'm not sure if people around sergio are making good choices for him, no way Lou Dibella should've let a fighter take a 13 month lay-off and go into a championship fight with zero sparring. You can't make up for the stages of the body getting used to blunt trauma. I would've much preferred to see sergio vacate his title and take a few extra months getting himself in order. Shy of a rematch with Cotto for his belts back no point in continuing to fight. He was stopped in his last fight, lost his belt and has never been properly appreciated by the networks. Wouldn't want to see sergio back on premium cable for a few hundred grand. Try to get your straps back or call it a day.

No. YOU embarrass yourself with your pitiful comments, as well as those who had a 50% or less Sergio destroying Cotto. Fact of the matter is you can't ever know how Cotto would do against GGG 'cause they will probably never fight. It has nothing to do with cowardice, and everything to do with the fact that GGG can't sell a seat compared to other potential fights out there, plus Cotto retiring soon and most probably and justifiably choosing the most lucrative fights after paying his dues. Cotto has fought the best, a fact that neither Mayweather nor Pacquiao can claim. Much less GGG, who has only fought tomato cans compared to Cotto.Ha.Cotto would see what a middleweight left hook to the body looks like. Not even getting on his bike would save him cause GGG cuts off the ring.
As for the second comment Pacquiao, Mayweather, and Austin Trout beg to differ. Lets not count Margarito because of the plaster, but the other 3 fights he lost and they weren't even close. You embarrass PR ppl and true boxing fans.
After the Sergio fight, I would expect most people here to acknowledge that fighting quality opponents in your career makes a difference in the outcome of a fight. However, it seems that people continue to choose to be blind. That's alright, keep losing your money while we laugh all the way to the bank.Comment

Nice try... Styles makes fights. Stylistically cotto was more "boxing" behind a jab when he fought mayweather. Which is not the right way to fight him and its also not what made cotto deadly in the 140 147 lb divisions. He seperated from his trainer, his uncle, and trained with a friend of his. Basically, he was training himself. He was weight drained against pacquaio. With pacmans "no rehydration" clause in the contract, it was easier for him because of cottos body being weight drained and not being able to rehydrate. Trout.... Styles makes fights. "This" style of fighting that cotto is implying would destroy trout.Ha.Cotto would see what a middleweight left hook to the body looks like. Not even getting on his bike would save him cause GGG cuts off the ring.

Martinez's health was going south and he turns 40 in February. He was unlucky to have opportunity knock when it did, but Sergio had little choice and had to seize the moment. Sergio shouldn't even be licensed to fight again; like many fighters, he is a shell of himself and could get hurt.
He has looked worse with every round since Chavez and is utterly shot. Ruined knee's and a bad shoulder have comprimised his balance, reflexes, footwork, power, punch resistance....he's just done.
The body is broken, hang them up Sergio.Comment

i can understand this. his mind must be really focused on the world cup right now.
he should fight a journeyman in his next fight to see where he is really at though.Comment

I became a Maravilla fan during the first P Will fight. It's too bad Sergio was such a late-bloomer. But now he's done. If anything, Martinez can follow your suggestion and go out with a win at home. He can't fight anymore at the highest levels. Something tells me Sergio is smart enough to call it a day.Maybe fight a low-level top 25 guy and retire on a win in Argentina but his days at the top p4p level are gone, sadly. He has had a great career and it has been a pleasure being a Martinez nuthugger but I would rather see him go out now than go out after losing 4 or 5 straight fights.....he deserves better than that.Comment

I like Martinez too much to watch him get Roy'd for the next two or three years. I hope he retires.Comment
