Palm facing down. I used to do the other one, but you can potentially hurt your hand if it is facing you, so when I switched gyms I was told to do the palm facing downwards one.

Pedro Diaz tried teaching Cotto to throw his palm down. He did frequently in the 24/7 for the Margarito fight. It just didn't work for him.

Palm down Larry. You catch em clean on the jaw like that...it's a wrap!

IMO and it is just my opinion, palms facing you seems to catch the chin better and be more natural and faster to land..but again that is just to me and my opinion..

I agree, not sure why but it felt unnatural for me to throw my hook with my palm facing down. Has anybody noticed how most pro's throw the left hook? Never thought about it much until now.

you just answered your own question. some of the best hookers right there.

Cotto's hook is a thing of beauty.

It's how I try to throw mine as well. It feels easier to, like you said, catch the chin flush.

Perhaps Cotto never truly mastered it or just didn't like it. He throws palm in with Roach.

Both.....but more importantly with the point of my elbow pointing outward and at equal height as my fist.
