Comments Thread For: Gary Russell: I Think My Hand Speed Will Be a Big Factor

World title challenger Gary Russell Jr believes experience will prove pivotal when he faces the talented Vasyl Lomachenko for the WBO featherweight crown this weekend.

The pair are two of the hottest talents in the 126-pound division, having enjoyed glittering amateur careers, with both men now competing to capture their first world title when they do battle this Saturday night, live and exclusive on BoxNation.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist Lomachenko has not taken the easy option since turning professional, with his first fight a victory over the skilled Jose Ramirez before a split decision loss in an historic bid for the world title against the hardened Orlando Salido.

Such a joke this kid is getting his second title fight in only his 3rd pro fight. Especially after losing his last fight which by the way was for this very same title. Russell will spark him out though. I'll be ringside in the 10th row yelling

I admire Lomachenko's desire to throw himself in with the sharks, but I just think he needs to lean how to better adapt to the pos. That World Series boxing organization he was with didn't truly prepare him for the nature of the pros, even if the rules were modified...

Experience takes time, and Amateur experience is valuable, but a little different than pro XP.

Russel's hand speed could be a huge problem for him. Time will tell.

The fly in Russell's soup. He's beat on so many face fighters, his hands are sore. Novacaine anybody?

I dont know who I hate more, Loma for the hype he gets and he aint **** as a pro or Russell for fighting TBA like 25 times.

I think Russell will win, for the exact reason he points out. handspeed. Verdejo whas kicking Lomas ass in the AM's. If it was a pro fight Loma would had not won a single round vs Verdejo.

                  Anyways, Russell close UD

Man I'm from the DMV and am a fan of of all the local fighters but I'm backing Lomachenko in this one. Russell is a bum beater he fights nothing but bums and he's looked decent doing it. Lomachenko yes I agree he shouldn't be getting another title shot but you can't knock him for wanting to fight the best. I got Lomachenko by md possibly by tko in the later rounds
