  • Comments Thread For: Guerrero: I Didn't Duck Thurman, Offer Was Disrespectful

Robert Guerrero will end a year-plus layoff when he fights Yoshihiro Kamegai Saturday in the main event of "Showtime Championship Boxing" from the StubHub Center.

Guerrero's last bout was a wide-points loss to Mayweather, but a fight with Keith Thurman was discussed later in the year. However, former Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said at the time that Guerrero didn't want to tussle with Thurman, and the calls of "duck" followed closely behind.

He probably received an offer commensurate with his ability/status in the game, which isn't all that high. This is the guy who talked himself into a Mayweather fight by prattling on to anyone who would listen about how he had the antidote, had studied Floyd obsessively, knew his weaknesses, had Plan A through to Z to beat him, then when he got his shot - which he scarcely deserved, having beaten a godawful Berto - froze on the big stage and got a boxing lesson. Dude pretty much hit air all night and never really tried to win. Now he's fighting some unknown Asian fighter a year after tanking at the elite level.

Thurman is too big, strong - just too good for a rough-and-rugged fighter of Guerrero's calibre. If Robert's chin holds up, he'd get a frightful beating in that fight.

Go away and take Ruben with you

Thurman would destroy Ghost and I'm not even a bug Thurman fan. The anemic combination of Guerrero's boxing ability and media skills mean that, especially at this stage of his fading career, no offer is disrespectful. Who does he think he is? It's not like he's got even the charisma of Josh Clottey. can't believe HayWeather got in on this guy.

Ghost will beat the SNOT out of Thurman. Thurman has never beaten an elite fighter and he has no power. It takes him forever to finish bums. He never finished that Zanavick guy that Berto destroyed basically.

Ghost is a tall southpaw swarmer. Boxrec and tail of the tape list him as a short dude but he is the biggest tallest at ww. He's a left swarmer(his punches are too close together) and with his longness he would eat Thurman alive.

Thurman gets hit by bums. He isnt even big. Thurman is a small dude. I think Ghost batters him tbh, and Ghost walked through Berto's power shots. Thurman cant even finish these bums he fights, he cant hurt Ghost bro and Im a known Ghost hater. But I know boxing.

Your one of these guys that just describe all aggressive fighters as brawlers. He is nothing like a brawler. He's a tactical pressure swarmer and he can adjust on the fly.

Understood. Hopefully they can work out the financial side of it and get it done.

In Thurman and Guerrero you have 2 fighters who arent draws. How much was Guerrero expecting?

you know who did duck thurman?

                    chino maidana.

his team pulled him out of that fight when they watched him on tape.
