I don't see how Provodnikov lost. Apparently, Algieri landed 300 punches to Provodnikov's 200. Even so, this was surely counterbalanced by Provodnikov's punches being so much harder. I don't remember Algieri throwing a single punch that made me think "woah, that must have hurt Ruslan". Ruslan was knocking Algieri off balance throughout the night, however.

A weak punch isn't equal to a hard punch. You don't beat an opponent by outworking him; you beat him by out hurting him.

This is what I mean. This isn't amateur boxing, it's a pro world title fight in front of a paying crowd that needs to be entertained. The challenger should actually go in there and take the belt from the champ. Ruslan was landing the telling blows, hurt the challenger badly, knocked him down twice, was pressing the action all night and showed the overall ring generalship. He fought like a champion defending his belt and was never tested by the challenger. Weak ass decision.

Also, how the fuck does one judge score a wide win for Ruslan, while the two others come up with this su****ious, identical 114-112 result for Algieri? Stinks.

If Ruslan fought all 12 rounds the way he did in the 1st round we wouldn't be having this discussion but he got lazy the rest of the night and was trying to land a lucky punch that never came. That's not how you win a decision!
