I used to luv Rock em Sock em Robots back in the day. Im grown now and enjoy more sophisticated entertainment. I do enjoy watching fighters beating the hell out of each other, but I never ask somebody to do something I wouldnt. Hit and dont be hit is what boxing about.

I don't have a problem with slick boxers but slick boxers fight in the center of the ring, give ground when they have to and take it to their opponents on their own terms for the most part.

Mayweather dismantling Canelo was smart slick boxing. Pac running circles around Rios was an example of slick boxing. Algeiri running for his life against Provonikov is not slick boxing, that's self preservation.

If you got a guy that is clearly in survival mode, trying to make it to the end of each round, that's not slick boxing, that's running and to reward this type of behavior with a win is a farce. It turns boxing into an advanced game of tag, where the objective is not to inflict damage on your opponent and impose your will but to see if I can touch the other guy without him touching me. It is no wonder boxing can't gain casual fans.

How about Brawlers learn how to cut the ring off, the sport is "BOXING" not "BRAWLING"

Rules are not going to change, this sport was built on "BOXERS" "Slicksters" look at your all time great list, most of them at the Top was "Slickersters" from Ali to Willie Pep what made them special was their Footwork, Speed and Quickness

Boxing is not going to change to appeal to the NEW BOXING FANS, new Rules won't be put in place and fighters are not going to change their styles and all become "STRICTLY BRAWLERS"

clay/ali who i considered the GOAT used his agility, speed and very good footwork; and as he said "float like a butterfly and sting like a bee"....

and sting like a bee ali always did try to....with really bad intention of putting early closure to a fight...

for me, the problem is when there is a very big gap between what other "slick" fighters wish to or intends to achieve and that of ali,....bcoz here lies the difference between exciting and boring fights

Ali had some very boring fights against mediocre opponents. You just get mobbed for saying so because he's a cultural icon in addition to a boxer.

What gets me is people who say they love Ali but when they see a modern fighter fighting the same way he's a running chicken. It just seems to me like that person has no opinions of their own and just going with the whims of the crowd.

What gets me is people who say they love Ali but when they see a modern fighter fighting the same way he's a running chicken. It just seems to me like that person has no opinions of their own and just going with the whims of the crowd.

We never got to see Ali in his prime because he was exiled from boxing. But the version closest to his prime was always throwing something when he was moving. And when he was moving, it wasn't to get out of range, but to create a new angle of attack.

I don't know of very many modern fighters who fight the same way. When they get on their bike it's to disengage entirely and reset. Ali was always throwing and that's what makes him stand out among these lesser modern day chicken runners.
