Top fighters finding power late in careers

That is a great point. However, I still maintain that PEDs will do little to enhance your raw punching power. Also, only a few drugs will increase your stamina appreciably and I'm not sure to what extent boxers take such drugs. People don't seem to understand that punching is nothing like sprinting for example. It's not going to be improved hugely by PEDs for reasons I have explained already in countless threads. Throughout history there are plenty of slow ass fighters who hit like trucks and also plenty of extremely fast fighters who could put out great numbers in the weight room but can't punch for ****.logical stuff.
JMM has perfect punching technique.
What I would say though, surely, taking PED's will enable you to much harder for longer and make you less likely to unravel as the fight goes on through tiredness thus keeping your shape and maintaining your technique and enabling you to punch hard late into the fight.
I'd say pretty much all elite boxers are punchers in the first 3-4 rounds if they connect right. It is why I never understand the vilification of fighters he get caught cold and bombed out early. Seems logical if a KO is going to happen it is likely to happen early especially between to well-conditioned elite athletes. But if PED's enable a boxer to maintain his power throughout then that changes. Especially if the opponent is clean. The clean fighter will start to unravel and the cheat will still be punching hard.Comment

many of the PEDs boost stamina. red blood cells are what carry oxygen around your body. test[osterone] boosts red cell count like crazy, along with most of the other hormones you can take.
you can train harder, or fight harder, and you'll tire less. you can load up more without getting as tired, IE you can punch harder.
there's also "doping" which is literally the process by which red cells / plasma are separated, frozen, and injected into the body close to the fight.
peds have evolved so much. they don't all turn you into he-man any longer. there are scores of drugs that would be of a massive benefit to boxing. they can even help your chin. if you've got better legs, you'll take punches better, especially late in the fight.Comment

PEDs don't increase your baseline punching power. You're misinformed.
PEDs make you punch harder in later rounds because you have more gas in the tank to invest into the shots. If you're still hitting as hard in the 12th as you are in the 1st, and your opponent (who isn't on PEDs) has diminished punching power because he lacks the energy to invest into his shots, you're going to KO him. It's all about perception.Comment

Sprinters run faster on peds lol, this guy just said steroids won't make a significant difference in speed.JMM may or may not be on PEDs. However, his punching power has nothing to do with this. I have to assume that most people here have never boxed because people who box should know that taking PEDs won't improve your power. If Paulie starts taking PEDs he won't start knocking people out. Punching power is 90% technique. Speed is important too but it's mostly technique because the speed difference between fighters for a single shot is less than you would expect. This is why some apparently slow fighters hit like trucks. Fighters that get their weight behind punches, on the other hand, hit hard. It's as simple as that. While most fighters can do this on the bag, doing it in the ring is another matter altogether as it requires timing, confidence in committing to punches, a willingness to take shots etc. It's simple physics: KE=mv^2/2. This energy is what creates the force to spin the head so that the brain moves inside the cranium, which is what produces a knockout. To increase it, you need to increase m by getting heavier (not an option if you have to compete within weight categories) or by improving technique or you need to increase speed (v). Taking steroids won't make a significant difference to punching speed and definitely won't improve technique.
I honestly believe Pacquiao is clean, I am su****ious of Floyd because he has that take one to know one attitude where he deflects what he is onto others, he might be on HGH if anything, and JMM is the most su****ious of the bunch and the Acne at 40 when he has never had acne in his life is suspect. Chael Sonnen started getting Body Acne when he was taking TRT and steroids, and he is a known user and even he can tell JMM is on roids because he uses the stuff himself.
Taking PEDS can improve the power immensely, especially when you have perfect punch technique like JMM.
In his third fight with Pacman he was huge and bulky making him slower and not giving him much fluidity because he was too buff, in the fourth fight Memo used different peds to help him retain the fluidity in his punch but maintain the muscularity and power. He was lean and muscular.
Baseball hitters get more homeruns with peds, because like JMM they have perfect technique on their swings, so the extra steroids help boost their power on their swing giving them more homers.
Also pitchers can throw faster with Peds.Last edited by hectari; 06-14-2014, 09:48 AM.Comment

I am aware of this. What I'm trying to say is, if you're knocking guys out with one punch then it's because you're punching properly and it's likely that you've always had the ability to get people out of there with one punch. As I said before, if you give Paulie PEDs he won't knock people out. I do accept that PEDs could give additional stamina, thus allowing one to punch with more power. However, they will not make people knockout punchers, which is what people on here seem to think.many of the PEDs boost stamina. red blood cells are what carry oxygen around your body. test[osterone] boosts red cell count like crazy, along with most of the other hormones you can take.
