  • Comments Thread For: Pedro Diaz Talks Cotto-Mayweather II, Rigondeaux, More

It was revealed recently that respected Cuban trainer Pedro Díaz is no longer working with WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion, Guillermo Rigondeaux. BoxingScene had the opportunity to catch up with the affable Miami-based coach who touched on the split with Rigondeaux as well as his former pupil Miguel Cotto’s victory last Saturday, among other topics.

I think he has to much of a Defensive/Amature style of training. With his style fighters do not commit to there punches and are always thinking defense. I think Cotto learned a little from him, but Pedro was not a great fit.

I'm light agree that Pedro is a defensive trainer instead of agresive, but with Mayweather Cotto was aggresive and with Margarito defensive. It depends of the opponent and is good not always be aggresive. Cotto was good but I'm not 100% convinced that martinez injuires didn't play an important role in the outcome. Lets see next fights of Cotto becase the one with Delvin Rodríguez and the injured Martínez are not a good meter for his better performance under Roach even when I like a lot Roach as a trainner

I've always liked Pedro as a trainer. A true boxing mind recognizes when a fighter is better equipped under other hands. Cotto looks the best I've seen him in years.

Typical mayweather fanboy. Floyd ducked "this" syle of cotto, hard left hooks to the body, when he retired after the ricky hatton fight saying, "I have nothing left to prove." Meanwhile, a month earlier, cotto just beat mosley, was 31-0 and in the same weight division. "We don't fight to see who's the best, we fight to make money."-Floyd Mayweather JR.
