Oscar lost too. It wasn't a case of Vargas trying to mix it up with Tito, he had no choice. Tito was at the peak of his powers and was absolutely relentless. He almost always got stronger as the fight progressed yet his power made him dangerous even early. Oscar was able to box Tito for a longer period than Vargas because, well, he's a better boxer than Vargas. But Tito got to him as well and while Vargas fought back, Oscar ran.

Vargas wasn't really trying to war with Tito in rounds 6, 7, and 8, but he was still getting hit with hard shots.
I noticed that too. Re-watched yesterday and noticed precisely that. Then when Vargas got super aggressive at the end of round 9, he took A LOT of damage.

      George Foreman even said,

      "It's getting rough for Vargas."

I think Vargas joined the PED party a little late though. Around the De La Hoya fight is where it appears Vargas started juicing. Just look at homeboy's body. Compare from 2000 to 2002. The 2000s was the PED era. Just look at baseball. Sadly, it was a little late by then - he already been brutally KO'd.

        Fernando in 2000

        Him in 2002

The difference is abundantly discernible. After his loss, he found rejuvenation in PEDs. He was juicing too much though cause he failed the test lol.

Anyway here's what Vargas had to say about that fight 14 years later.

Oh Lord, here we go again.

Just in case you didn't know, Tito ran every marathon he could even during training. It was his thing to show up at every race they did in PR just for fun....and training obviously. Epo, lmao!

He went toe toe instead of boxing. He could have beat Tito easy.

              Very true.

People have bad memories or don't know what they are talking about.

it is clear that vargas wasn't really going to war with tito in rounds 6 to 8, but Trinidad was getting to him with hard shots anyway.

And as you said in round 9, he took a beating when he got aggressive in round 9.

Tito trinidad used low blows and illegal bandaging to win this fight against a man who was not even in his prime yet.

Tito was faster, stronger and more ruthless/dirty.

Vargas just flat footed, over rated, decent fighter none da less.

Tito basically destroyed Vargas's career, just like David Reid......... Tito was destroyer of boxers careers....

                      ......what a fight!!!
