Marquez: Skilled Cotto studied less skilled Martinez

Marquez mentioned how while Martinez is good, he was not a technical boxer as is Cotto. Cotto knew Martinez dropped his right hand and was able to catch him. He reiterated that while Martinez was able to style on certain guys, Cotto being technically superior and quicker than Sergio's usual opponents, was able to beat him. He also said Martinez appeared afraid to be countered by Cotto after that 1st round.

Marquez: " In Cotto I saw a big improvement in patient aggression, speed and overall skill"

Chavez Sr. " Cotto worked hard with Roach and it showed."

They mentioned the flaw in Martinez circling into Cotto's left hook as opposed to his right.

Cotto is quoted as saying Martinez has a "habit of keeping his right hand down" and how that plays into his left hook.

Sergio couldn't even bend his knees. He had no head movement whatsoever, and couldn't move out after throwing his shots. That wasn't Sergio. That was a sitting duck.

No butt hurt. Just saw the actual fight.

this is the truth with any version of sergio... his defense was his legs/movement (which wont get u far) so he would have put up a better fight with his knees but he still lacked technical skills to beat an elite boxer, his upper body/head movement isnt up to par so he would have no answer for the left hook for the whole fight, once his one two is taken away (like it was in this fight) he wouldnt have the technical skills to adjust and go a different rout, if he didnt have legs he should have fought off the ropes but he couldnt because he is a one demisional fighter with no skill but is very exciting and athletic with heart!!!!

              GOOD POST!!!

when has sergio ever had good head movement? his defense was his movement which is why hes always knocked down and off balance, it worked for him against not so great boxers but its not gonna cut it vs top fighters bro

With the kind of power display Cotto put on I don't think Martinez could have done anything. Every time Cotto landed squarely upstairs or down he was doing significant damage. Martinez never had a chance.

I personally think that Cotto beats any version of Sergio. Truth is, I was never impressed with Sergio's skills. He was fast and able to jump in on slower guys and be effective. I think Cotto would have timed him and hurt him regardless of age. Keep in mind, Sergio got stopped by a slow Margarito. I see no reason to pretend Cotto could not have taken Sergio out at any time in history. When we really look at Sergio's opponents, I just can't see how Sergio is supposed to give a fighter like Cotto real problems regardless. The fundamentals where just never there for Sergio.
