Comments Thread For: Jacobs-Fletcher For WBA Title Targeted For August in NY

Danny Jacobs is getting his second crack at a version of the middleweight title.

The cancer survivor announced via his verified Twitter account that he will be facing Australia's Jarrod Fletcher for the vacant WBA middleweight title on either August 2 or August 9 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The welterweight bout between IBF champion Shawn Porter and mandatory Kell Brook is also being targeted for the August 9 date.

    Most likely August ninth IMO.

Kovalev and Rios are proven number getters and I think they would want Porter to get as much exposure as he can without having to fight for viewership

So the WBA alone will have 3 MW's champions: super, regular and interim.
      I find it ludicrous.

In any case, good luck to Jacobs, win or lose.

Pure garbage. Once again Jacobs and quillin are both with Haymon and both fight on showtime so why are they still giving these guys these $hi+ fights. Just make Jacobs vs quillin already.

It is ludicrous. Completely devalues the meaning of the word champion.

But more titles means more guys get to go their home city or country and make money out of fighting for a "world title." And the WBA triples their earnings from sanctioning fees.

The WBA is by far my least favorite major sanctioning body. Seriously 3 champs in one weight class under the WBA really? It happens all the time to. Even the WBC has the smarts to only have a Interim title when need be most of the time.

If they fighting for the WBA"regular" , then GGG is the new WBA "Super" champion?

Yes another Aussie warrior going for a world title! Great to see Australia with a strong representation at middleweight. Hope Jarrod makes the most of his opportunity and brings hope the 'regular' WBA title.

If jacobs wins then jacobs vs quillin would be the worst unification of all time.

                    What are you talking about?

Quillen is not the best technical fighter, but he gets knockdowns and KO's, and Jacobs has KO'd his last like 3 opponents... Billy Dib vs. Miguel Vasquez would be the worst unification fight of all time - lol
